Why Choose Powder Collagen Supplements Over Chews or Tablets?

A joint tablet is not much use sitting beside an empty food bowl. Yet for plenty of dog owners, that is exactly where it ends up.

You might have tried hiding tablets in dinner or offering supplement chews as treats, only for your dog to refuse them. If that sounds familiar, a powder could make things easier.

Pawable collagen powder is designed to support healthy joints and mobility in adult dogs. You mix it into their usual food, so there is no tablet to hide or separate supplement chew to introduce.

Joint tablets vs powder for dogs

Some dogs take joint tablets happily. Others seem able to find one however carefully you hide it.

If yours eats around tablets or spits them out, you will know how frustrating it can be. You have chosen something to support them, but getting them to take it becomes a job in itself.

With Pawable, the collagen is mixed in through their food. For a dog that enjoys dinner but refuses tablets, this can be a much easier way to give a daily supplement.

Sue N. said in her review of Pawable for her dog, Jacob…

“I like the fact it’s powder and not tablets as he’s not good at taking tablets!”

Some joint tablets can also be crushed into food, depending on the manufacturer’s instructions. Pawable is already supplied as a powder, ready to measure and mix.

Soft chews vs powder for dogs

Joint chews offer a treat-style way to give a supplement. That can be convenient, although not every dog likes the flavour or texture, and some products require several chews a day.

Powder avoids the need to find another treat your dog likes. You add it to the food they already eat.

The recipe is another difference. Some joint chews contain flour, glycerine or oils to help give them their texture and taste. Pawable is 100% collagen, with no added fillers or bulking agents.

For owners who want to add collagen without the extra ingredients used in a supplement treat, Pawable offers a simple alternative.

So what exactly is in Pawable collagen powder?

Pawable combines hydrolysed collagen types I, II, III, V and X with UC-II® undenatured type II collagen. These come from bovine hide and cartilage, eggshell membrane and chicken sternum.

Joint chews and tablets can use quite different ingredients, including glucosamine, green-lipped mussel and chondroitin. They do not all contain collagen.

Daily servings for small and large dogs

Pawable is suitable for adult dogs of all sizes, with the daily serving based on their weight.

For a 20kg dog, the recommended amount is 5g (two level teaspoons) a day. A £29.99 pack contains 225g, so it lasts 45 days and works out at about 67p a day.

A large breed dog will need a larger serving. For example, a 30kg dog has 7.5g (three level teaspoons) a day, which means a pack lasts 30 days.

You can find the serving for your dog’s weight in the Pawable feeding guide.

Mixing Pawable into your dog’s food

Pawable can be mixed into wet, dry or raw food and has a naturally meaty aroma.

Stir it through wet food, or add a little water to help it cling to dry biscuits.

If your dog tends to leave some of their dinner, you can mix the powder into a smaller portion first.
